Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow was concerned about Washington’s attempt to play on the Kurdish card in Syria.
Lavrov statements came at the end of his talks with Yousef Al-Othaimeen, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), adding that the Kurds are willing to begin talks with Damascus and that Moscow welcomes such a development.
While he hoped that the United States would not make any acts could violate the Security Council resolutions, and balance the interests of all ethnic components on the Syrian territories.
At the same time, the Russian minister pointed that there is “an obstacle” represented in Washington’s attempts to play on the Kurdish card and push the Kurds to create a “quasi-State” in the east of Euphrates.
Sergey Lavrov called on Western countries to “abandon double standards in the fight against terrorism and extremism in Syria, as stated in UN resolution 2245”.
Lavrov stressed that the fight against terrorism must be relentless, both in the east of the Euphrates and in the de-escalation zones in Idlib.
Shuffling the cards
Russian political analyst Dmitry Kim, told North-Press that “Lavrov’s remarks reflect Russia’s concern over the existence of American attempts to shuffle the papers in the Syrian equation through fabricating new crises; but this time between the Arab tribes and Kurds, in order to divert attention from the real danger represented in Washington’s tools of terrorist movements, to weaken the both sides, and to give the armed terrorist groups, which are mostly imported from abroad, a breathtaking opportunity after its slogans are in no use anymore, and exposed its real objectives.”
Kim indicated that with “the beginning of decline of the Turkish role in the Syrian file, where it’s confined only by attempts to hinder or postpone the political solution at best, this loses Washington one of its most influential cards in Syria, despite the misleading talk about the differences in some details between Ankara and Washington.”
As he considered Moscow’s concerns are justified by the suspicion of Washington’s attempts to reproduce the Syrian crisis, through its purely internal component, since it contrasts the Russian efforts to pave the way for bringing the Syrian groups together around the negotiating table; in a preparation attempt for putting a formula that would end the Syrian conflict.
The Russian analyst believed that the awareness of Syrian components of this fact is the best guarantee to block the US plans and to abort the “creative chaos” plan, which Washington insists on keeping Syria within that chaotic framework.
