“It’s important to eliminate the remaining tensions in Syria, to contribute to the provision of humanitarian aid, the reconstruction of the economy and to the return of the displaced.” Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a press conference at the closing of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan on Saturday.
“The role of the member states of BRICS will double the difficult challenges and the threats to international peace and security,” Putin added.
He also stressed that “Multifaceted Russian assistance to the legitimate government in Syria, reduced the bloodshed in this country.”
Putin added “Contacts with Turkish partners about Syria are ongoing on a daily basis, and they are more vital with the American side,” pointing out that Moscow “Knows everything going on there and follows developments closely, but there are details that are not necessary to talk about in this press conference.”
Moscow is more confident
Putin’s speech comes as developments escalate in northern Idlib, with a majority of Russian analysts indicate that Moscow has become more confident and convinced of the validity of its policy in Syria and its manners of dealing with.
In this context, Sergei Persanov, an international affairs analyst told North-Press that “The summit was an opportunity to catch the breath of the propaganda war between Moscow and Washington,” precluding that this will have a positive reflection on Kremlin’s efforts of acceleration to put the Syrian crisis to an end.

He stated that the positions of some international and regional states “are more obstinate and stubborn of being softened by a summit held periodically far from the hot conditions on the international scene”.
Persanov expressed his conviction that Washington is going strong to “escalate with Iran, it doesn’t intend to move back from its positions on the crisis in Syria, and it’s not interested in presenting a historical gift to Russia and present it as a winner in the Syrian crisis”.
He sees that the same frustration related to “the Turkish role in Syria, which has entered into the phase of confusion, pointing out that the Turkish leadership does not want to realize that it has become amid an endless war in Syria”.
Between the jaws of pliers
In this context, the Russian analyst told North-Press about his belief that the results of the recent elections in Istanbul showed a significant decline in the popularity of the Turkish leadership, adding that with time passing, it will become the biggest loser in the “Syrian swamp”, especially in the light of the losses that Turkish forces started to get northern Syria, and its failure in depending on the “extremist groups” which it widely supports there, and how it got into an unexpected and unthoughtful clash with Washington, also it’s not far that “Turkish forces get between the jaws of the pliers of the Syrian and Kurdish forces at one time.”
