The agreement of “Non-Collision” with America allowed Russia to expand in Syria
Khalid Khoja to North Press: the agreement of “Non-Collision” with America allowed Russia to expand in Syria
The former president of the Syrian Opposition Coalition said that the basic agreement which has allowed the Russians to expand in Syria was not the agreement of “Reducing the Escalation”, rather, it was “Non Collision” agreement that was at first signed with the American partner and in coordination with Israel, which allowed them to expand under the pretext of fighting terrorism, he also pointed out that Russia wants to repeat the scenarios of Homs, Aleppo, and Ghouta in Idlib.
Since the beginning of the last Astana Conference, all eyes were on the decisions of the conference, as well as on the events that were going on in Idlib city and the countryside of Hama, in term of military and political developments, this was in a state of expectations; would those areas face the same fate of Aleppo and Ghouta? Or, would the opposition win this battle politically and militarily ?.
Khalid Khoja told North Press that it was clear right from the beginning that Putin intervened in Syria in September 2015, to save the “Syrian Regime”, when the fall of Government was only a matter of time, especially after the failure of Iran. Months after the intervention, the Russians diverted the Geneva course towards Vienna to intervene politically after the military intervention.
He said, ” Putin’s history in practicing the scorched earth strategy, then imposing the political solution in the way he wants using the local agents, just like the events that took place in the Caucasus and the Crimea or what happened with the opponents inside Russia. Therefore, the extrapolation of what Putin would do in Syria was not a complicated matter. “
“The course of Sochi and Astana should have been analyzed from this point of view, but the changes within the opposition forces, of excluding all of those who have relations with countries depending on partnership, in order to support the revolution, and they were replaced with those who look forward to playing the role of agent, that would be appropriate to the international game in Syria, which gave an opportunity at the expense of the demands and objectives, and the liberated areas, it also gave Putin the needed time to think of the situation and the implementation of the scorched earth policy and then the siege, at last, reconciliation and displacement, as what had happened in Homs, Aleppo, and Ghouta. Now, the same strategy is followed in Idlib city regardless of the huge demography and diversity of people which were not an obstacle to Putin, as long as the deterrent option was removed.”
However, he pointed out that the basic agreement that allowed the Russians to expand in Syria is not the agreement of “Reducing the Escalation”, which is considered an infrastructural agreement, but it is the agreement of “Non-Collision” that was initially signed with the American partner and in coordination with Israel”
Khalid Khoja in his interview with “North Press” stressed that the important and the obvious thing about the agreement mentioned, is that it is out of the Syrians will, whether it is the Government, the opposition or the Kurdish Forces, ” they are all implementation tools and those agreements succeeded to dominate Putin’s control over Syria.”
