Syria’s Hama to introduce Kurdish language classes in five schools
HAMA, Syria (North Press) – Hama Education Director Ahmad al-Madloush told North Press on Tuesday that five schools in Hama Governorate, west-central Syria, will currently teach the Kurdish language.
“It is no secret that Syria is home to many cultures spread across its geography. Given this cultural diversity, it was necessary for us to have linguistic diversity as well,” he said.
The Ministry of Education has worked to introduce Kurdish in several areas of Hama where Kurdish communities are present, he added.
Kurdish has been introduced at several schools, including Fatima bint Asad School, Uthman bin Affan School, and schools in Jreijes, al-Sawda and Khirbet al-Jamaa villages, he said.
Teaching Kurdish at these schools will begin “once the curriculum arrives and teaching staff are available,” al-Madloush said.
“We hope to introduce Kurdish in several other areas to meet the needs of some communities where our Kurdish brothers live,” he added.
