Syria’s Internal Security kills former regime commander in Tartous
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Internal Security said on Sunday that it killed Firas Abdulkarim Hammoud, known as “al-Khal,” during an armed clash in Tartous governorate.
The Internal Security Command said the operation was carried out in cooperation with the Counter-Terrorism Administration in Tartous governorate.
According to the command, Hammoud opened fire on security personnel three days earlier as they attempted to arrest him. During a subsequent operation targeting his hideout, he again opened fire and engaged the security force, prompting officers to respond and “neutralize” him.
The command said security records showed that Hammoud had served as commander of the Special Forces of the so-called 25th Division under the former Syrian government.
It added that after the battles that led to the fall of the former government, he was known by the alias “Fajr 3” and had reportedly acted on behalf of Ghayath Dala in commanding groups affiliated with the former government and wanted individuals along the coast.
The operation followed the monitoring of Hammoud’s movements between several areas and the identification of his hideout, the command said.
