Trump says U.S. has upper hand in Strait of Hormuz
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that millions of barrels of oil are flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming U.S. forces have cleared shipping routes through the strategic waterway.
Trump’s remarks came as Washington continues efforts to restore maritime traffic through the strait, which has remained largely disrupted during the six-month U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, with roughly one-fifth of the world’s seaborne oil trade normally passing through it. However, shipping traffic remains significantly below normal levels. Seven commodity vessels transited the strait on Thursday, compared with 17 the previous day and a 10-day average of 15, according to ship-tracking data cited by Reuters.
Iran is meanwhile discussing conditions for restoring normal navigation through the waterway, with diplomatic efforts involving Qatar and Oman aimed at reaching an arrangement over its reopening.
