Nechirvan Barzani welcomes progress in SDF integration with Syrian state
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Wednesday welcomed what he described as significant progress in the process of integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with Syrian transitional government forces, calling on Kurdish parties and communities in Syria to support the process.
In a post on X, Barzani said the steps taken to implement agreements between the SDF and the Syrian government represented an important development toward strengthening security and stability in Syria.
“I welcome the significant progress achieved in the integration process of the SDF with the Syrian government forces,” Barzani said, adding that he viewed the developments as an important step toward enhancing Syria’s security and stability.
He called on “all Kurdish parties and components of Syria” to support the process and contribute to its success.
Barzani also praised Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s approach to addressing outstanding issues through dialogue and understanding, describing it as a responsible policy aimed at leading Syria toward what he called a better future.
He further commended the efforts of SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi, highlighting his role in advancing the integration process.
“We look forward to completing this process in a way that constitutes the beginning of a new phase in Syria,” Barzani said, expressing hope that the process would safeguard the rights of all Syrian citizens and communities.
He added that a successful conclusion could help Syria move toward greater peace, security, stability, recovery and prosperity.
The remarks come amid ongoing efforts to implement agreements between the Kurdish-led SDF and the Syrian government concerning the future status and integration of SDF forces and institutions within the Syrian state.
The process is closely watched by Kurdish political parties and other Syrian communities, as it could shape the future of governance, security arrangements and the protection of the rights of Kurds and other components in northeastern Syria.
