Iran offers bounty for killing, capturing U.S. soldiers
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) — Iran’s military announced on Sunday a reward of $30,000 for anyone who kills or captures and hands over a U.S. soldier, with the payment doubled if the act is carried out by a woman.
Iranian Army chief Amir Hatami said the plan was developed following a large number of requests from people seeking to participate, according to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency.
“Anyone who kills or captures and hands over an invading American military personnel” will receive the reward, Hatami said, adding that the payment is equivalent to 5 billion Iranian tomans.
Hatami did not specify where or when such an action would be expected to take place.
He also said Iranian women who carry out the action would receive double the reward.
Hatami reiterated calls for the United States to leave the Middle East, saying U.S forces no longer have permission to enter the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman or the Strait of Hormuz.
There has been no known deployment of US ground troops inside Iran during the current conflict, except for a rescue mission in April involving an American airman, according to reports.
The conflict between Iran and the United States began on Feb. 28 after U.S and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Fighting has since continued intermittently, mainly in southern Iran and around the Strait of Hormuz.
