Israel says Syria accelerates efforts to rebuild air force
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) — Israel’s public broadcaster reported on Monday that Israeli security officials have detected an acceleration in Syria’s efforts to rebuild its air force.
According to Kan 11, Syria has begun recruiting new pilots and conducting training using training aircraft and helicopters.
The broadcaster reported that a first exercise involving Sukhoi fighter jets was held in northern Syria, describing it as a new development in efforts to rebuild the Syrian Air Force.
Kan 11 also reported that Syria is receiving support from several countries, including Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Russia and France.
Israeli security officials are also concerned about Türkiye’s expanding military presence in Syria and the possibility of deploying Turkish air defense systems there, according to the report.
An Israeli security official said Israel is monitoring developments in Syria and sharing its concerns with the United States.
