Syrian Health Ministry launches new projects in Deir ez-Zor
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Health Minister Musab al-Ali on Monday announced several health projects in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, including the launch of an oncology hospital project.
Al-Ali said during a press conference that restoring and developing basic health services in Deir ez-Zor and other governorates was part of the ministry’s efforts to achieve greater equality in healthcare, Alikhbaria Syria reported.
He said the foundation stone for the oncology hospital was laid Monday. Studies for the project will take four months, followed by 30 months of construction, while existing health services will continue during the work.
Al-Ali also said the ministry was working to repair a cardiac catheterization device at the hospital within three to four days and was seeking to transfer another device to ensure continued access to the service.
He stressed that medical equipment, clean facilities and available medicines were not sufficient without qualified medical workers, describing trained healthcare staff as the health sector’s main strength.
The minister also formally apologized for the transfer of medical staff from eastern Syria, as well as eastern rural areas of Homs, Aleppo, Daraa and Quneitra, to Damascus to maintain healthcare services for residents.
Al-Ali said healthcare was a comprehensive social responsibility that begins with prevention and early detection and requires the participation of all segments of society.
