Anti-narcotics administration thwarts drug smuggling in Syria’s Quneitra

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Anti-Narcotics Administration said on Saturday it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs in the southern countryside of Quneitra governorate.

In a statement published on its Telegram channel, the Anti-Narcotics Administration said the security operation targeted a criminal network planning to smuggle a shipment of drugs out of the country.

The operation resulted in the arrest of four people, it said.

The administration said security forces seized 17.5 kilograms of drugs, around 100,000 narcotic pills, as well as a military weapon with a tactical vest and ammunition.

It added that the seized items were confiscated and the detainees were referred to the competent judiciary to take legal action against them.

The operation came one day after the administration announced the arrest of two people in Tartous governorate on charges of drug trafficking. It said authorities seized 27 kilograms of hashish, 5,000 Captagon pills, as well as weapons and ammunition in their possession.
