Damascus blast kills nine civilians, injures 20
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria’s Interior Ministry revealed on Thursday details of the bombing that targeted a café on al-Nasr Street near the Palace of Justice in Damascus, saying the attack killed nine civilians and injured 20 others.
In a statement, the ministry described the incident as a “terrorist” bombing, saying it occurred at around 3:00 p.m. local time on Thursday. It added that the explosion also caused material damage at the site.
According to the ministry, preliminary investigations found that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device weighing about one kilogram and packed with metal fragments.
Security forces cordoned off the area immediately after the explosion, while engineering teams and police dog units conducted searches to ensure that no additional explosive devices or threats were present.
The Criminal Investigation Department has begun collecting evidence, examining samples, reviewing surveillance camera footage, and interviewing witnesses as part of an ongoing investigation aimed at identifying the perpetrators and anyone involved in planning or carrying out the attack.
The ministry said the investigation remains underway and that its findings will be announced through official channels once completed.
It also stressed that all those responsible for what it described as a terrorist act would be pursued and brought to justice, urging citizens and media outlets to rely on official statements and refrain from spreading rumors.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said the injured were transferred to several hospitals in Damascus, adding that their injuries ranged from minor to moderate and critical.
