QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) conducted a field visit on Tuesday to Abidin village in the Yarmouk Basin area of western Daraa governorate to assess conditions following recent Israeli shelling.
The visit came two days after Israeli forces shelled the village with artillery while military helicopters fired heavy machine guns at the area amid intensive helicopter flights over the region.
According to preliminary information, the bombardment forced several families to flee their homes and caused material damage to residential properties and agricultural land. No casualties were reported.
Local sources told Syrian state media that the UN delegation met with residents and listened to their accounts of recent Israeli military incursions into the area, as well as the shelling that targeted the village over the past two days.
Residents described widespread fear and panic among the local population following the attacks, the sources said.
UNDOF has monitored the ceasefire line between Syria and Israel in the area since 1974 under a United Nations mandate.
