Iraqi forces arrest senior ISIS figure in Anbar
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Iraqi military on Saturday announced the arrest of a senior administrative and financial operative of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq.
In a statement, Iraq’s Military Intelligence Directorate said that intelligence units from the Seventh Infantry Division, working in coordination with the al-Qaim Intelligence and Counterterrorism Department, carried out a swift preemptive security operation that resulted in the capture of one of ISIS’s most prominent administrative and financial figures in Anbar.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the operation was based on highly accurate intelligence and led to the arrest of a suspect known as Abu Musab, who was reportedly responsible for distributing what the group refers to as “sponsorships” — financial payments and support provided to ISIS members and their families within the area known by the group as the “Euphrates Province.”
The statement added that an arrest warrant had been issued against Abu Musab under Article 1/4 of Iraq’s Anti-Terrorism Law, and that legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Iraqi authorities described the arrest as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle the remaining financial and logistical networks of ISIS cells operating in the country.
