Israeli forces enter southern Quneitra countryside, withdraw later
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli forces advanced on Friday into villages in the southern countryside of Quneitra before withdrawing, according to Syrian state media.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that an Israeli force consisting of two military vehicles moved along the road connecting the villages of al-Muallaqa and al-Hiran. No clashes were recorded during the operation.
In a related development, reports indicated that Israeli forces on Thursday detonated several structures in the destroyed city of Quneitra, including al-Daghestan Mosque, a courthouse, a museum, and nearby buildings, after they had been rigged with explosives.
The area had also witnessed demolition operations in January, targeting the old Golan Hospital and several remaining homes and structures near al-Arab Mosque.
Israeli movements and incursions are periodically reported in southern Syria, amid ongoing disputes over the 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel.
The Syrian government considers such actions a violation of the agreement and calls for adherence to its terms, while Israel maintains that its activities are driven by border-related security concerns.
