ISIS claims 2 attacks on government forces in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) group, through affiliated channels, claimed on Saturday responsibility for two separate attacks targeting a Syrian government security member and an oil tanker in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The group’s Amaq news agency said in a statement that its militants “targeted a Syrian security member near his home in the town of Abu Kamal, east of Deir ez-Zor, using a silenced handgun.”

The statement added that the security member was hit by two bullets but “managed to escape from the militants’ fire,” without providing further details on his condition.

In a separate statement, Amaq said ISIS militants “targeted a government oil tanker with machine guns on the main road near al-Makman village, north of Deir ez-Zor,” causing damage to the vehicle and spilling its cargo.

Deir ez-Zor countryside has witnessed recurring attacks claimed by ISIS, often targeting government personnel, oil infrastructure, or military positions, amid continued activity of the group’s sleeper cells in Syria’s eastern desert region.
