Rabia crossing with Syria to reopen on April 20 – Iraqi official
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Rabia (al-Ya’rubiyah) border crossing between Syria and Iraq will reopen on April 20, Omar al-Waeli, chairman of Iraq’s Border Ports Commission said on Tuesday.
Al-Waeli told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that preparations are underway to resume operations at the crossing in Nineveh province, highlighting expected economic and logistical benefits for the area.
He added that inspection companies have also begun operating between federal border crossings and those of the Kurdistan Region to examine goods and ensure they meet Iraqi standards before entering the country.
On crossings in western Iraq, al-Waeli said that the government recently directed the reopening of the al-Waleed crossing with Syria in Anbar province, where crude oil tankers have already begun exporting from Iraq to Syria.
He indicated that reopening Rabia will support transit trade, passenger movement, trade exchange and oil transport, as well as contribute to the government’s Development Road project.
The Iraqi official pointed out that the Border Ports Commission is implementing a strategy to address challenges facing trade and ensure smooth coordination with customs authorities and neighboring countries.
Al-Waeli said that trade flows have continued without disruption despite regional developments and that Iraq is witnessing an increase in both trade exchange and traveler movement.
