QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and another injured on Friday after Israeli shelling targeted an area in the town of al-Rafid in the southern countryside of Quneitra, according to state media.
Syrian state-run Syrian Arab News Agency reported that the incident occurred west of al-Za’aroura farm in al-Rafid, where a tank shell struck the area, resulting in casualties.
Earlier on Friday, Israeli forces reportedly advanced into the village of Saida al-Hanout in the southern Quneitra countryside, near the border in southwestern Syria.
The developments come amid heightened tensions in the region, following demonstrations that took place in recent days across the countryside of Daraa and Quneitra. According to available information, large numbers of protesters approached the border area, calling on the Syrian government to open it and chanting slogans related to confronting Israel.
No official statement has been issued by Israeli authorities regarding the reported shelling or the troop movement.
