Syrian Security Forces arrest suspects in Homs mosque attack
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Monday the arrest of two men accused of carrying out the December 26 bombing at Imam Ali Mosque in Homs, which killed eight people and injured around 20 others.
The attack targeted the Imam Ali Mosque in Wadi al-Dahab, a neighborhood largely inhabited by members of the Alawite community. The explosion, carried out by unidentified assailants at the time, marked one of the deadliest incidents in Homs in recent months.
Interior Ministry spokesperson Nour al-Din al-Baba confirmed the arrests in a statement posted on the social media platform X, declaring: “The cell responsible for the bombing of Imam Ali Mosque is now in the custody of the Interior Ministry.”
According to the ministry, security units in Homs, working in coordination with the General Intelligence Directorate, conducted a “precise and well-planned” operation that led to the capture of Ahmed Attallah al-Diyab and Anas al-Zarad, identified as members of the Islamic State (ISIS).
Authorities reported that the suspects were found in possession of explosive devices, assorted weapons, ammunition, and digital evidence linking them to the attack. The ministry stated that the arrests followed extensive surveillance and field monitoring, which enabled security forces to determine their identities and location.
