AANES says up to 9.5 million dunams cultivated so far in NE Syria
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) told North Press on Tuesday that the agricultural activity has expanded significantly across northeastern Syria during the current farming season, with more than 9.5 million dunams cultivated so far.
Mehran Ahmad, co-chair of the AANES’ Agricultural Affairs Office, said that more than 9.5 million dunams cultivated so far; 5.27 million dunams of the irrigated lands and 4.3 million dunams of the rain-fed lands.
Agricultural areas across northeast Syria have seen a notable surge in farming activity following recent rainfall, encouraging farmers to expand cultivation, Ahmad added.
He indicated that the amount of seeds distributed during the current agricultural season has reached 81,400 tons so far.
The official pointed out that the rain-fed lands have increased by more than 100 percent compared to last year.
He noted that seed distribution has also increased compared to the previous season, adding that licensing procedures are still ongoing, which could further expand cultivated areas and seed quantities in the coming period.
