France voices concern over civilian deaths in Israeli operation in south Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Chargé d’affaires at the French Embassy in Syria, Jean-Baptiste Faivre, said on Sunday that France is concerned about reports of civilian casualties resulting from Israeli military operations in the town of Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside.

In a post on X platform, Faivre stated, “We demand that Israel respect Syria’s sovereignty and the integrity of its territories and express our concern regarding the information indicating the fall of civilian victims during the Israeli military operations in the town of Beit Jan.”

On Nov. 28, Beit Jinn came under Israeli shelling after clashes erupted between an Israeli military patrol that had entered the town and several residents. The incident left 13 people dead, including women and children, and wounded several Israeli soldiers.

He added, “We call on all countries in the region to engage in the ongoing efforts to enable Syria to become a center for peace, security, and stability for the benefit of the Syrian people and the entire region.”

The Israeli army announced on Friday that it had carried out a security operation inside Beit Jinn, located on the southern slopes of Mount Hermon in the western Damascus countryside, targeting wanted individuals affiliated with the so-called ‘Islamic Group.’ The operation resulted in six Israeli soldiers being injured.
