SDF source denies claims Mazloum Abdi suspended March 10 agreement
QAMISHLI, North Syria (North Press) – A senior source in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied on Tuesday recent media reports claiming that SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi had suspended the March 10 agreement signed with Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa.
The SDF source told North Press that “all circulated reports about suspending the agreement are false,” adding that Abdi had, in fact, reaffirmed his commitment to the deal during his participation in the Middle East Peace and Security (MEPS) Forum held in Duhok on Nov. 19.
“The Commander made it clear in Duhok that the agreement is still valid and that implementation is ongoing, though progressing gradually due to the complexity of the situation,” the source added.
According to the source, coordination with the transitional government in Damascus continues “within the framework agreed upon on March 10,” and any media claims suggesting a halt are “politically motivated and not based on facts.”
The March 10 agreement between the SDF and the Syrian transitional government was designed to reduce tensions, regulate security arrangements, and establish mechanisms for political coordination in areas of northeast Syria.
In recent days, several outlets reported that Abdi had halted the process, a claim contradicted by his public comments at the MEPS Forum, where he highlighted the challenges but stressed continued commitment.
The SDF says the agreement remains a key component of current political and security dialogue in the region.
