QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The office of U.S. Representative Hamadeh said he received an operational briefing from Gen. Mazloum Abdi, Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), covering recent field developments and ongoing coordination efforts between the two sides.
According to the statement from Rep. Hamadeh’s office, the congressman thanked Gen. Abdi for appointing a dedicated liaison officer to work on efforts to recover the remains of American aid worker Kayla Mueller, who was killed in Syria. The office described the liaison designation as a step to bolster ongoing coordination on humanitarian and accountability issues.
During the meeting, the office said Gen. Abdi “welcomed” a recent decision by former U.S. President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria, characterizing the move as “an opportunity to strengthen pluralistic governance in the country,” and called for continued U.S. support.
The statement added that Rep. Hamadeh congratulated the SDF on “progress achieved” in a diplomatic track with both Damascus and Ankara aimed at preserving Syria’s territorial integrity. No additional information was offered on the content, format, or timeline of those diplomatic contacts.
The meeting, as described, focused on field updates, liaison coordination for humanitarian casework, and maintaining contacts across the Syrian landscape.
