Five killed, mostly children, in landmine explosion near Hama
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Five people, including four children, were killed and seven others injured on Monday evening when a landmine left from previous battles exploded while they were harvesting olives north of Qamhana town in the countryside of Hama.
Local sources told North Press that “three children and a young man died instantly in the explosion, while another child succumbed to his injuries shortly after.”
Witnesses said the blast was powerful, prompting residents to rush to the site, where they found the victims alongside several injured children who had accompanied their families to the fields. Eight people were initially reported wounded, one of whom later died from severe injuries.
The victims and injured were transferred to al-Omouri Hospital in Hama city. A hospital worker confirmed to North Press the identities of four of the deceased: Hassan Ahmad al-Melhem (14), Mubarak Salem al-Dergham (17), Mohammad al-Mansour (15), and Ibrahim al-Alawi (7).
Sources noted that the bodies were handed over to their families in the village of al-Awja.
