Unknown gunmen target SDF positions in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday that one of their positions in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, came under attack by unidentified assailants.
In a statement, the SDF said that “unknown armed elements operating from the western bank of the Euphrates River fired an RPG round at one of our positions in the village of Abu Hammam.” The attack, according to the statement, caused no casualties.
The statement confirmed that the attack did not result in any casualties.
The SDF added that its forces responded with precision fire, targeting the source of the attack across the river.
“Investigations and field follow-ups are underway to identify those responsible,” the statement concluded.
The Abu Hammam area, located east of the Euphrates, has witnessed sporadic security incidents in recent months, often involving unidentified armed groups operating near areas held by Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias on the river’s western bank.
