Unknown gunmen target SDF fighter in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A fighter from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was wounded on Saturday in an armed attack carried out by unidentified gunmen in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A military source from the SDF in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that Luay al-Mohammed, an SDF fighter, was shot by unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle near the desert area of al-Suwar town while he was on leave.
The source added that late Friday night, unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire with machine guns on an SDF checkpoint at the entrance of Abu Hamam town in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
The attack caused only material damage, with no additional casualties reported.
The SDF has not yet released an official statement regarding the incidents.
Earlier the same day, the SDF had announced the loss of four of its fighters who were killed while repelling an attack by the Islamic State (ISIS) in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
Just two days earlier, ISIS militants had ambushed an SDF patrol, killing five members in ensuing clashes. The group later claimed responsibility for the attack.
