Gov’t-linked factions kill fighter, injure children in east Aleppo – SDF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – One fighter of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) succumbed to wounds on Wednesday following a drone and artillery attack carried out by factions affiliated with the Syrian transitional government in the countryside of Deir Hafer in Aleppo eastern countryside, the SDF said in a statement.
The attack began on Tuesday evening when two suicide drones struck one of the SDF’s positions, according to the statement. It was followed by hours of artillery shelling that hit civilian-populated areas.
The SDF added that earlier the same day, Syrian government forces shelled the village of Zubaydah, in the same area, injuring four children with varying degrees of severity.
The statement condemned what it described as “systematic targeting of civilians” by groups under the Damascus government’s Ministry of Defense.
On Sep. 20, similar shelling in Deir Hafer killed eight civilians, including three children, and wounded four others. Two children died instantly, while a third succumbed to his injuries after being transferred to a hospital.
The SDF accused Damascus-affiliated factions of pursuing a strategy of escalation aimed at destabilizing the region, spreading fear, and displacing residents in violation of existing agreements and understandings.
