Gunmen attack Asayish checkpoint for second time in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unidentified gunmen attacked on Monday evening a checkpoint of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A security source from the Asayish in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the al-Irshadiya checkpoint, located at the entrance to the village of Daranj, was targeted with an RPG and machine-gun fire.
The source added that brief clashes erupted following the assault, forcing the attackers to retreat. The incident resulted in material damage only, with no reported casualties.
The source noted that the same checkpoint had been targeted three days earlier, leaving one Asayish member dead and two others wounded. The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility for that previous attack.
