Syrian Interior Ministry seizes large weapons cache in Daraa
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Interior Ministry announced on Sunday the seizure of a large cache of weapons and ammunition in the countryside of Daraa, which were reportedly stolen from military depots during the fall of the former regime.
In a statement, the ministry said that after receiving a report from a local resident about weapons hidden inside a house in the town of Nawa in Daraa countryside, the Internal Security Directorate carried out a raid that led to the discovery of the cache.
The ministry added that the confiscated weapons included a variety of ammunition and military equipment, prepared for illegal trade.
In a related context, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) have previously carried out similar security operations, including one in Deir ez-Zor’s eastern countryside that led to the arrest of ISIS cell members and the seizure of weapons and ammunition in their possession. These efforts highlight the determination of SDF and Asayish to combat illicit arms trafficking and extremist threats.
