Israel says it captured Iran-linked cells in Syria operations
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli military announced on Friday that its operations inside Syrian territory over the past months resulted in the arrest of “terrorist cells directed by a unit of Iran’s Quds Force.”
According to an official statement, in March and April of this year, Israeli forces detained two field operatives from Unit 840, identified as Zidan al-Tawil and Muhammad al-Kuryan.
The statement added that in recent weeks, several other terrorist cells had been apprehended. These cells were reportedly mobilized on behalf of Unit 840 by Lebanese operatives Qasim Salah al-Husseini and Muhammad Shuaib, who were recently neutralized in Lebanon. The statement described them as key actors in smuggling weapons from Iran to the West Bank, Samaria, and the northern frontlines.
Israeli authorities said investigations revealed that some recruits were unaware of the true nature of the organization they were serving. Recruitment for Unit 840 was often carried out through financial incentives without disclosing the unit’s actual objectives.
The army further accused Iran’s Quds Force of exploiting the difficult living conditions of Lebanese and Syrian citizens to recruit them through “deception, bribery, and lies,” putting their lives at risk to carry out terrorist operations.
