Asayish Launch security operation in Raqqa to pursue wanted individuals
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Wednesday the start of a security operation in Raqqa, northern Syria, aimed at pursuing individuals wanted on multiple criminal charges.
In an official statement, the Asayish said the campaign seeks to “strengthen security and stability, and arrest those wanted for justice on various charges,” noting that the operation will be carried out “with precision and professionalism” by its special and operations units.
The statement highlighted that years of conflict in Syria have created widespread instability and a security vacuum, which has allowed Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells to regroup and escalate their activities.
These activities include attacks on both Asayish and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions across several cities and towns.
The security vacuum has also enabled drug traffickers—long operating under the protection of the former Syrian regime—to expand their networks into northeastern Syria, the Asayish added.
It further noted to recurring incidents of indiscriminate gunfire and other attempts to undermine security in the region.
According to the statement, these challenges necessitated ongoing security and military operations, including increased patrols and elevated alert levels.
Recent actions have included a combing campaign south of Hasakah to disrupt ISIS cells and a large-scale sweep inside Hawl Camp.
The Asayish concluded by affirming that broader security operations will soon extend to all areas of northeastern Syria.
