Israeli airstrikes target Homs, Latakia; Damascus condemns “aggressive escalations”
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli Air Force (IAF) reportedly carried out late on Monday airstrikes targeting Homs in central Syria and Latakia on the Mediterranean coast, Syrian state media said.
Viral footage showed a massive plume of smoke and debris rising above Homs, while additional videos appeared to capture Israeli jets striking near Latakia.
North Press correspondent said that Israeli warplanes targeted the vicinity of a military base in the Saqubin area of Latakia with several airstrikes and the surroundings of the al-Auras area in the countryside of Homs, though the extent of the losses has not yet been determined.
Syrian outlets also reported explosions close to the port city, with local sources suggesting possible strikes in Palmyra as well.
The Israeli military has not confirmed or commented on the alleged operations.
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the attacks, describing them as a “flagrant violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.”
The ministry accused Israel of pursuing a “series of aggressive escalations” that undermine both Syrian and regional stability.
Damascus called on the international community, including the UN Security Council, to take action to “end these repeated attacks.”
