Syrian authorities arrest 3 former regime members in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Security forces of the Syrian transitional government arrested on Saturday evening three former members of the Assad regime during operations in Deir ez-Zor city and its countryside.
A military source told North Press that General Security patrols raided the Ayash neighborhood of Deir ez-Zor at night, detaining Qutada al-Mahmoud, a former member of Military Security in the governorate, following a recent surge in attacks in the region.
According to the source, al-Mahmoud was arrested after intelligence reports linked him to orchestrating assaults and “causing disturbances in the area.” A Kalashnikov rifle and ammunition were seized during the raid.
In a separate operation in the city of al-Quriyah, eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, security patrols arrested two other former regime members, including Abd al-Tawab al-Akash. Weapons and ammunition were also confiscated from their possession.
The source added that the security forces continue to track armed cells accused of targeting government positions and checkpoints across the region.
