Hasakah operation foiled ISIS attempts to regroup – SDF sopx
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The recent security operation in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria, was carried out in response to intelligence reports on growing Islamic State (ISIS) activity, Abjar Daoud, Spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press on Monday.
“We launched the operation after confirming suspicious movements by ISIS and attempts to reorganize its ranks in certain neighborhoods,” Daoud said.
Daoud explained that the campaign was preemptive and aimed at preventing potential threats to civilians and critical infrastructure, particularly around prisons holding thousands of ISIS detainees.
He added that the operation was conducted in coordination with the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), alongside specialized military operations teams that provided real-time intelligence support.
“Precise raids were carried out, and several ISIS cells preparing dangerous attacks were dismantled and their members arrested,” Daoud noted.
On Aug. 30, the SDF, supported by the Asayish, and the YPJ, launched a large-scale security sweep involving more than 3,000 fighters. The campaign targeted ISIS hideouts in and around the city of Hasakah and concluded with the arrest of 51 wanted individuals, in addition to the seizure of weapons depots and ammunition.
