Israel detains suspected militants in southern Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli military announced that it had arrested several individuals in southern Syria suspected of carrying out activities against its forces, continuing cross-border security operations near the Golan Heights.
According to an Israeli army statement, the operations were carried out over several nights by units from Division 210 alongside field investigators from Unit 504. “During a series of night operations in southern Syria, several suspects involved in promoting terrorist activities against the Israel Defense Forces were arrested,” the statement said.
The army added that Israeli forces conducted a sweep in affected areas, seizing weapons and other combat materials. The statement emphasized that Division 210 remains deployed in the region to prevent attempts by militants to establish positions that could threaten Israeli citizens.
The arrests included two civilians from the village of al-Rouhaini in central Quneitra countryside on Thursday, located near the demilitarized zone along the Golan. No further details were provided regarding the identities of the detainees or the circumstances of the arrests.
Southern Syria, particularly areas adjacent to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, has remained a sensitive security zone for decades.
The Israeli army indicated that its patrols and security measures in the region will continue in the coming days to thwart potential militant activity and maintain its security objectives near the Golan border.
