SDF dismantles ISIS cell in eastern Deir ez-Zor, arrests two
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Friday that they dismantled a cell linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) in the town of Dhiban, located in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
In an official statement, the SDF said that the operation, carried out last night by SDF commandos under the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of weapons and ammunition including five Kalashnikov rifles, 23 rifle magazines, four military vests, and 600 rounds of ammunition.
The operation followed careful surveillance and intelligence work, the statement added, which allowed security forces to locate the cell’s hideout, impose a tight security cordon, and arrest two of its members.
According to the SDF, the detainees were directly involved in attacks on military positions in the area, including targeting points controlled by the Deir ez-Zor Military Council in Dhiban itself.
North Press verified that no civilian casualties were reported during the raid. The SDF emphasized that investigations are ongoing and that the detainees are being held for questioning under the supervision of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council.
This operation is part of ongoing counterterrorism and security measures in northeast Syria, where the SDF and local councils continue to work together to maintain stability and prevent the resurgence of extremist activity.
