Mass grave discovered in Syria’s Latakia containing 9 bodies
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Directorate of the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the discovery of a mass grave in the countryside of Latakia, western Syria.
In a statement, Brig. Gen. Abdulaziz Hilal al-Ahmad, head of Internal Security in Latakia, said the grave was found near the village of Bustan al-Basha, north of Jableh.
He added that it contained the remains of nine individuals buried in a farm once owned by a former regime air force officer.
According to the statement, the discovery followed security intelligence indicating the presence of a mass grave in the area.
Specialized units from the Internal Security Directorate were dispatched to the site, where they uncovered a large pit inside farmland owned by Hassan Youssef Younes, a former air force brigadier general.
Civil Defense teams retrieved the nine bodies, while criminal investigation units began documenting evidence and collecting information under the supervision of relevant security authorities, according to the statement.
