SDF announces 4 fighters targeted in “terrorist act” in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Deir ez-Zor Military Council within the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday that four of its fighters were targeted in a “terrorist” attack on Wednesday evening while on a non-military errand in Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria.
The Council added that the attackers are believed to be members of the Islamic State (ISIS).
According to the council’s statement, the fighters were inside a pharmacy in the town of Gharanij to receive medical treatment when the attack occurred.
“In response, our forces conducted a precise military operation that resulted in the killing of one of the abductors and the wounding of three others,” the statement read, adding that the operation is still underway as planned.
The council vowed that “any attack on our forces or our people in the region will be met with a firm and decisive response” and confirmed that an investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances of the incident and identify all those involved.
Details of the attack are being withheld until the investigation is complete, the council noted, reiterating its commitment to rejecting any attempts to undermine the security and stability of the region.
