SDF denies U.S. pressure, says new joint tasks under discussion
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A source from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) told North Press on Wednesday evening that there is no American pressure on the SDF; instead, both sides are discussing new joint tasks.
The remarks came in response to a report by the Middle East Eye website, which claimed that American officials warned the SDF the U.S.-led Global Coalition may not be able to protect them if Damascus launches a military attack, unless they adhere to the March 10 agreement.
The SDF source dismissed these claims as “fabricated and recycled narratives that do not reflect reality and are intended to mislead public opinion.”
“There is no American pressure on the SDF,” the source reiterated. “On the contrary, we are jointly discussing new responsibilities.”
He noted that the U.S. “underscores the importance of the SDF’s presence within the Syrian army,” warning that without such participation, the situation for the government would be “catastrophic.”
The source affirmed the SDF’s “commitment to dialogue” and expressed appreciation for “the role of allies and international mediators in seeking a final agreement with Damascus.”
