SDF urges Syrian government and allies to fully comply with ceasefire agreement
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) issued on Saturday a statement calling on the Syrian government, its allied factions, and Turkey-backed groups to immediately cease all violations of the ceasefire agreement signed in April 2024. The appeal follows a reported attack that injured four civilians, including a child, in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
According to an official statement published on the SDF’s website, SDF condemned repeated breaches by factions aligned with Damascus and those supported by Turkey across multiple locations, including Deir ez-Zor, Deir Hafir, Tishrin Dam, and Tal Tamr. The statement highlighted suspicious military movements around the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo city, which violate a prior agreement between local administrations in these areas and Damascus dated April 1, 2024.
The SDF detailed that the hostile factions have launched more than 22 attacks on northern and eastern Syrian territories, employing heavy weapons alongside ground offensives and attempted river crossings over the Euphrates targeting SDF positions in Deir ez-Zor. These assaults have resulted in injuries to over 11 civilians and caused significant damage to densely populated areas, the statement added.
Emphasizing the terms of the ceasefire agreement—negotiated between Ahmed Al-Shara’ and the SDF’s General Commander Mazlum Abdi—the SDF underscored the core objectives of complete cessation of hostilities, civilian protection, and fostering political solutions.
The SDF affirmed its commitment to restraint throughout the duration of the agreement despite ongoing provocations. However, it warned that continued violations risk undermining mutual trust and jeopardizing the fragile understanding, reigniting conflict tensions at a time when Syria urgently requires dialogue. The statement placed full responsibility on the Syrian government for the current breaches.
In its concluding remarks, the SDF called on the international community and human rights organizations to closely monitor ceasefire violations and ensure enforcement of the agreements. It reiterated readiness for dialogue and cooperation aimed at securing peace and stability in Syria while affirming its preparedness to take necessary measures to defend the rights and safety of the local population.
