SDF foils attack on its position in Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Friday that its units repelled an armed assault targeting one of their positions in the town of Jazrat, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
In an official statement, the SDF said that shortly after noon, an armed group crossed the Euphrates River using a small boat and approached its position in Jazrat, which falls within the administrative boundaries of al-Kasra area. The attackers reportedly fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at the post.
SDF units responded immediately with return fire, prompting a brief exchange of gunfire. According to the statement, the assailants retreated across the river without inflicting any casualties on SDF personnel.
Following the incident, SDF forces conducted search and sweep operations in the area to track down the infiltrators and secure the surroundings. The SDF emphasized that these measures were aimed at maintaining local stability and ensuring the safety of residents.
The eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, under the administration of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), has seen periodic infiltration attempts by armed groups crossing from areas on the western bank of the Euphrates. Local security forces, backed by the SDF, have increased river patrols and monitoring to deter such movements.
The Euphrates River, which runs through Deir ez-Zor, has often served as a crossing point for hostile elements seeking to target AANES-held territories. The SDF, with the support of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), regularly carries out counter-infiltration measures along the riverbank to prevent attacks and safeguard civilian areas.
In its statement, the SDF reiterated its commitment to protecting the population and preserving the security of the region, noting that its units remain on heightened alert in light of recent infiltration attempts.
