Temporary body formed in Syria’s Suwayda to oversee services, security
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The Higher Legal Committee in Suwayda, southern Syria, announced on Wednesday the formation of a temporary executive office to oversee public services in the governorate, alongside the appointment of new internal security leadership to ensure the provision of essential services to citizens.
The committee, established in July following recent military developments in Suwayda, was formed under the auspices of the Druze spiritual leadership. It comprises six judges—four of whom are legal advisors—and three lawyers.
In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the committee stated that Maher Ghaleb al-Andari has been appointed as Secretary-General of Suwayda Governorate and Shakib Ajwad Nasr as head of the Internal Security Forces in Suwayda.
The committee outlined its operational strategy and objectives, including establishing an executive office in Suwayda to manage public services, creating specialized subcommittees for relief, fact-finding, and monitoring violations, and following up on the cases of missing and forcibly disappeared persons.
The committee also adopted the issues of supporting families of martyrs and the wounded, collecting and distributing donations to affected communities, preserving public and private institutions, banks, and economic facilities, overseeing public health and hospital services, and addressing broader humanitarian and social needs.
