$14b push: Syria rolls out 12 ambitious projects
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Investment Authority announced on Wednesday the launch of 12 strategic projects worth a total of $14 billion, in a ceremony attended by Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar’a.
The announcement, carried by state media, outlined a broad development plan covering infrastructure, transportation, and commercial sectors. According to Talal al-Hilali, head of the Investment Authority, the projects aim to “build a prosperous future” and signal that Syria is “open for investment” alongside trusted partners.
Al-Hilali said the initiatives represent a “qualitative leap” for the country’s infrastructure and economic life, with projects planned across multiple regions.
Among the most prominent ventures are:
- Damascus International Airport expansion – $4 billion investment.
- Damascus Metro project – $2 billion urban transit upgrade.
- Damascus Towers – $2 billion commercial and residential development.
- Baraamka Towers – $500 million investment.
- Baraamka Mall – $60 million retail center.
The official added that these projects are intended not only to improve physical infrastructure but also to generate employment opportunities and build trust with international investors.
Syria’s economy has faced severe challenges in recent years due to the prolonged conflict, international sanctions, and damage to essential infrastructure. Large-scale investment announcements such as this are rare and often draw attention from both domestic and foreign stakeholders monitoring the country’s reconstruction prospects.
The Syrian Investment Authority did not disclose the source of funding for the new projects or provide a timeline for their completion.
