General Security member Killed, two injured in Latakia countryside
LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) – A member of the Syrian General Security forces was killed and two others injured on Tuesday after a man threw two hand grenades at a security checkpoint in the countryside of Qardaha, in Syria’s Latakia Governorate.
According to local sources and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at the al-Sinaa checkpoint, where three General Security personnel were stationed. The assailant, described by witnesses as visibly intoxicated, reportedly threw two grenades at the checkpoint after being told to stop drinking in public.
The explosion resulted in the immediate death of one officer. The two others sustained serious injuries—one of whom underwent emergency surgery due to the severity of his wounds, which included multiple limb amputations. The second injured officer was reported to have suffered shrapnel wounds and was also hospitalized in Latakia city.
Eyewitnesses told North Press that the attacker appeared to be in a state of “complete inebriation and confusion” when the initial confrontation took place. “He left the scene and returned about 30 minutes later with two grenades,” said one local resident who witnessed the aftermath of the assault.
