SDF member injured, fuel tanker destroyed in separate attacks
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) –Separate armed attacks by unidentified assailants in Deir ez-Zor countryside on Tuesday left a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) injured and caused the destruction of a diesel tanker, local sources and security officials reported.
Security incidents have surged since early morning in both eastern and western parts of Deir ez-Zor, with at least five separate attacks targeting security forces, civilians, and infrastructure. No group has claimed responsibility for the coordinated assaults.
According to the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), three of their personnel were injured in an armed ambush in the countryside, though the exact location and details were not disclosed.
A local source from al-Hisan, a village in western Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that two masked gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire with a silenced pistol at Ahmed al-Wail, an off-duty SDF member, near the entrance to the village. Al-Wail sustained injuries and was transferred to a nearby medical facility, while the attackers fled the area.
The source emphasized that the victim was spending leave with his family and was not on duty at the time of the incident.
In a separate incident the same day, unidentified individuals, also on a motorcycle, targeted a diesel tanker en route to a government-managed fuel station in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor. The attackers used automatic weapons to fire on the vehicle, hitting it directly. The tanker veered off the road and overturned, resulting in significant damage. No casualties were reported in the second attack.
A North Press reporter in the area confirmed both attacks occurred within hours of each other and were part of a broader pattern of violence that has affected the region throughout the day.
Deir ez-Zor, a province in eastern Syria divided between several armed actors, continues to witness sporadic attacks by unknown gunmen. The SDF and local security forces maintain a presence in parts of the region, working to counter destabilizing activities and prevent the resurgence of extremist cells.
As of Tuesday evening, no party has claimed responsibility for the five attacks reported throughout Deir ez-Zor’s eastern and western countryside.
