Man shot dead by unknown assailants in Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A man was killed on Tuesday after being shot during an assassination attempt in the town of Al-Shuhail, located 40 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor city in northeast Syria.
Local sources in Al-Shuhail told North Press that unknown gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire with an automatic weapon targeting Abdul Mahmud Al-Shaher near Al-Taqwa Mosque on the main road in the town.
The victim was immediately transferred to Al-Shuhail Specialized Hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries.
This incident marks the fifth such violent attack reported in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside since the beginning of the current week, resulting in eight fatalities, including civilians and members of local security forces.
Eastern Deir ez-Zor is part of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) territory, where the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are the main security actors. The SDF has maintained a continuous presence in the region, focusing on security and fighting ISIS.
