Fresh clashes erupt in Syria’s Suwayda amid ceasefire violations
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – One member of a Druze faction was killed following renewed clashes in the western countryside of Suwayda, southern Syria, that erupted on Saturday and flared up again Sunday morning.
Both parties – local Druze factions and government forces – traded accusations over responsibility for the ceasefire violation.
A source from the Suwayda Health Directorate told North Press that “one individual was killed due to the intense fighting in the area.”
The source added that the number of injuries remains unknown, as ambulances were unable to reach the hotspots due to the ongoing hostilities.
The region remains highly volatile, with fears of further escalation. Clashes over the past two weeks have resulted in nearly 2,000 people killed or wounded, as tensions between Druze factions and government-aligned forces continue to mount.
