Turkish Airlines resumes flights to Aleppo after 14-Year pause
Aleppo, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the first Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul arrived at Aleppo International Airport in northern Syria, carrying 140 passengers, marking the resumption of service after a 14-year suspension.
According to Syria’s official SANA news agency, the flight was received by an official Turkish delegation headed by Muammer Hakan Cengiz, Turkish Consul General in Aleppo, along with representatives from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority, including the Head of Public Relations, Alaa Sallal.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Aleppo International Airport to mark the arrival of the first Turkish Airlines flight.
During his remarks at the ceremony, Consul General Cengiz expressed his satisfaction with the resumption of flights to Aleppo after more than a decade, highlighting it as a step toward renewed engagement between the two countries.
The reactivation of this air route signals a new phase of international presence at Syrian airports.
The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority had previously announced the reopening of Aleppo International Airport for air traffic as of March 18.
