Asayish officer wounded in attack at checkpoint in Deir ez-Zor

 DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Wednesday that one of their officers was wounded in a targeted shooting at a security checkpoint in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

In an official statement, the Asayish said that at approximately 2:00 p.m., assailants belonging to a “terrorist cell” carried out what was described as a “cowardly attack” using a pistol while riding a motorcycle.

The attack took place at the Asayish checkpoint in the village of al-Sa’wa, west of Deir ez-Zor.

The officer sustained four gunshot wounds and was immediately transferred for medical treatment. His condition is currently under medical observation, the statement added.

The Asayish forces launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend the perpetrators. The Asayish strongly condemned the attack, reaffirming their commitment to pursuing those responsible and bringing them to justice.
