Druze spiritual leadership calls for ceasefire
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – The spiritual leadership of the Druze community issued on Saturday a statement calling for an immediate end to ongoing clashes in Suwayda, southern Syria, and “resorting to the voice of reason, wisdom, and dialogue.”
In a statement published on its official Facebook, the Druze spiritual leadership said, “We extend our hand to every honorable individual in order to end the current clashes, enforce a ceasefire, and embrace reason, wisdom, and humanity—rather than weapons and chaos.”
“The sons of the Druze faith have never been advocates of division or discord,” the statement read. “Throughout history, they have been a beacon of humanity and fraternity, and the mountain has always been a refuge for the oppressed and fearful.”
On Friday, fighting once again erupted in the western countryside of Suwayda, resulting in casualties among the Druze armed groups and tribal militants, which began on July 13.
